Round 10 of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season will celebrate the contribution Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have made to Australian Football. Here are some stats relating to the round …
11 – This is the eleventh year the AFL has celebrated Indigenous Round, and the second time the Round has been celebrated since being renamed after Sir Doug Nicholls.
23 – There have been 23 listed Indigenous players at the Adelaide Football Club: Andrew McLeod, Graham Johncock, Richard Tambling, Jared Petrenko, Troy Bond, Jonathon Griffin, Ronnie Burns, Tony Armstrong, Eddie Hocking, Ricky O’Loughlin, Shane Tongerie, Jarrhan Jacky, Eugene Warrior, Greg Dempsey, Ben Parker, Tim Milera, Anthony Wilson and current Crows Eddie Betts, Charlie Cameron, Cam Ellis-Yolmen, Curtly Hampton, Wayne Milera Junior and Ben Davis.
81 – For the first time since 2006, there will be more than 80 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players on AFL lists. This year, there are 81 male players who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, which makes up ten per cent of AFL lists. There are 11 female players who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in the NAB AFL Women’s Competition.
1 – Eddie Hocking was the first Indigenous player to represent the Crows, in Round One 1991.
2 – Indigenous Crows premiership players: Andrew McLeod (two) and Troy Bond (one).
340 – McLeod played a total of 340 AFL games – ranked second all-time among Indigenous players. Sydney Swans great Adam Goodes holds the Indigenous games record with 372.
262 – Betts ranks eighth overall (262) and is one of 10 Indigenous players to have reached 250 games.
995 – Games played for the Adelaide Football Club by Indigenous players.
843 – Goals kicked for the Crows by Indigenous players.
18 – The guernsey number has been worn by three Indigenous Crows – Troy Bond, Graham Johncock and Eddie Betts.
23 – The No.23 jumper has also been owned by three Indigenous players – Andrew McLeod, Jared Petrenko and Charlie Cameron.
3 – The Crows will take on Fremantle at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night. It will be the fourth time the Club has hosted an Indigenous Round clash. The Club has hosted Indigenous Round matches in the previous three years, against Greater Western Sydney, the Dockers and Gold Coast.
2 – Betts has kicked Goal of the Year in his past two Indigenous Round matches.
4 – Adelaide will wear a specially designed Indigenous jumper for the fifth straight year.
18 – All 18 AFL clubs will wear Indigenous jumpers to help celebrate the round.
50 – Each match during Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round will have the Aboriginal flag painted in the centre circle, the Torres Strait Island flag painted on one of the 50 metre markings on each half of the field, and ‘67’ placed on the other 50 metre markings to commemorate the 1967 Referendum.
