Defender Nick Murray has returned to the gym and will resume running next week as he recovers from a jarred knee at training.

Murray landed awkwardly in a marking drill last Thursday and has been ruled out for 2-3 weeks.

“We scanned him the next day and fortunately there was no structural damage, but it was a nervous 24 hours for Nick and the rest of us,” High Performance Manager Darren Burgess said.

“He got through the scan OK and we’re going to rest him this week, take him off his legs, and he will start running next week and integrate into training after that.

“He had some minor swelling in his knee which has pretty much resolved now, and once that’s fully resolved we will get him back running and he will be good to go after that.”

Forward Josh Rachele is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after suffering three fractured ribs in Sunday’s win over North Melbourne.

“Josh had a pretty nasty incident as you all saw on the weekend, he’s unfortunately fractured three ribs so he will have a period of rest at home and then we’ll integrate him back into the Club, and when the doctors give us the all clear he will start training again.

“Fractured ribs are a really painful injury so we’ll give him as much time as he needs and he will recover when he does.

“He had an amazing pre-season Rash and was playing some really good footy early on, so it’s certainly a blow for him and us.”

Fellow forward Karl Gallagher will resume contact training in coming days as he looks to return from shoulder injury next week.
