The Triple M Adelaide Breakfast crew got into the spirit of April Fools Day, as they played a prank on Crows forward Taylor Walker during his weekly segment.
Joining Roo, Ditts and Loz to chat about the Crows’ Round Three win against North Melbourne, they played a piece of fake audio that explained players would be fined up to $10,000 for celebrating goals that were in fact behinds.
The prank was in reference to a third-quarter set shot from Darcy Fogarty, where Walker could be seen celebrating despite the ball hitting the post.
Upon hearing the audio, the Crows’ all-time leading goal-kicker was quick to defend himself.
“It’s all part of the game isn’t it, are we serious?,” Walker said.
“He (the goal umpire) was standing right underneath the goal post, so how can you blame other people.
“My view on that is if you are unsure, try and convince the umpire, why wouldn’t you, $10,000 that is ridiculous.”
After the initial shock, Walker quickly worked out it was a prank and went into more detail on what he said to Fogarty after the shot on goal.
“You’ve just completely made that up haven’t you, you’ve got Sean Maynard (Triple M’s news announcer) to put together a fake bulletin, there’s no way that was real,” Walker said.
“Did you see me trying to convince the umpire, Fog is saying set up, set up, I was saying don’t set up, make out you kicked it mate.”
The 34-year-old made his presence felt around the goals against the Kangaroos, kicking a team-high four majors as the Crows recorded a 36-point victory.
Two of those goals came from his work as a ruckman in the forward 50, a skill he said he had worked hard to develop in the back half of his career.
“I enjoy it (taking the ruck), it’s something that I’ve only tinkered with in the back end of my career, and looking back I wish I got into it earlier in my career,” Walker said.
“It is a craft, I feel that ruckmen always try to beat me with their height which is their strength over mine, but I try to get them when they are a bit vulnerable.
“For it to come off on the weekend with a couple of goals was nice, and it's something I’m always trying to get better at.”
Adelaide travels to Queensland this weekend to face fellow undefeated side Gold Coast.
Walker said the group was excited to take on the challenge, and highlighted the area he thought the game would be won.
“We are going to have to put our hard hats on, because they are certainly going really well, and we are looking forward to going up there and testing ourselves against a very good side,” Walker said.
“Most of their game is based around contest and pressure, so if we can nullify them in that area I think it would go a long way to beating them.”
Adelaide takes on Gold Coast at People First Stadium this Saturday afternoon, with the first bounce at 12.50pm (ACDT).
