Adelaide Senior Coach Matthew Nicks says the side is drawing inspiration from Australians competing at the Tokyo Olympics ahead of the clash with the Western Bulldogs.
As the Club’s second week in Melbourne draws to a close, Nicks said the magic of watching the Olympics and the Aussies claiming medals was motivating the players.
Many South Australians including rower Alex Hill, who was in the men's coxless four that won gold, as well as Crows Ambassador and basketballer Patty Mills, were part of the team making the nation proud.
“We take huge inspiration out of watching all our athletes perform,” Nicks said.
“It’s allowed us to stick tight here and be together when a lot of these key moments at the Olympics are taking place.
“Watching (Ariarne) Titmus swim was incredible.
“As a group we look at that and no doubt in time, these are the sort of athletes you’d love to get in and talk to the group about what they’ve gone through over a long period of time to get to that key moment.
“We’ve been blessed by having the Olympics on as I’m sure a lot of people have been in this tough time.”
The Crows will battle the Bulldogs in Ballarat on Saturday and Nicks said the match will be hotly contested in tough conditions.
But he was confident the side would be up for the challenge.
“It’s going to be a really red hot contest this weekend and we’ve got Nick Murray coming back and available,” Nicks said.
“We feel like Rowey with that little bit of confidence behind him is a good in for us this week.
“This one is an interesting one as we are expecting up to 40 km/h winds, we’re expecting rain, we know what it is to play down in Ballarat, it’s a different challenge.”
The clash kicks off at Mars Stadium, Ballarat, at 11.50am (ACST) and will be televised live on Fox Footy.
