Brisbane Lions midfielder Jared Polec could announce which South Australian club he wants to play for this week, according to manager Justin Reid.

Polec, 21, has requested a trade home to SA, but is yet to nominate a preferred club.

The skilful left-footer is “open-minded” about a future at either the Crows or Power, but Reid said the former Woodville-West Torrens junior could choose a club to help speed up the trade process.

“Jared wants to play football in Adelaide. Both clubs have presented really well … he’s happy to play for either side.  In saying that, we’re not going to let it drag out to the last week (of the trade period),” Reid, of Elite Sports Properties, said on FIVEaa.

“If there’s not much movement come the middle of this week, (manager) Nick Gieschen and myself will sit down with Jared and he’ll probably nominate one club he wants Brisbane to deal with.

“From there, we’ll try to get the deal done.”

Recruited with pick No.5 in the 2010 AFL National Draft, Polec was limited to 16 games in three seasons with the Lions. He only played one match this season after injuring his ankle in Round Three.

Reid said Polec was determined to deliver on his potential at his new club.

“We’re not trying to make this all about Jared Polec. He needs to knuckle down, work hard, get some respect in the AFL and get a kick,” he said.

“He knows he needs to work hard. Whatever environment he goes into, he wants to make sure he gets the best out of his ability.

“He wants to, one, get to a club and then reward them with what he can do on the football field.”
