Jack Madgen will captain Adelaide’s SANFL side for a second consecutive season.
The key defender was first appointed Skipper last year after taking over the reins from Matthew Wright who had captained the team for five seasons.
Madgen was signed to the Crows’ SANFL team ahead of the 2023 season after five seasons with Collingwood.
The 31-year-old featured in 49 AFL games for the Magpies after being drafted as a Category B Rookie in 2017, after switching from basketball where he played with Cairns in the NBL and College in the US.
Since returning to South Australia, Madgen has played 35 State League games for the Crows and featured in all but one game last campaign.
Madgen is also the Head Coach of the Club’s Boys Academies and an assistant coach for the Crows’ AFLW side.
Crows SANFL Coach Matthew Wright said Madgen was deserving of another season in the role.
“Jack is a fantastic mentor to the younger players and really drives standards within our group,” Wright said.
“Not only is he a great footballer but he’s also a great person and we are excited to have him lead our team again this year.”
Madgen said he had learnt a lot in his first year at the helm and was excited by the side’s potential.
“I took a lot of learnings from last year and I was a better player, teammate and Captain at the back end of the year so I’m really looking forward to building on that going into 2025,” Madgen said.
“The talent that we’ve been able to bring onto our SANFL list this year is really exciting.
"We’ve brought in players like Ned Atkinson, who going to get a chance to play some league footy which is awesome, and Saxon Evans from Willaston who has been a great teammate so far, so I’m really excited to play with them.
“Even the AFL boys, they always bring awesome attitudes, and I love playing alongside those players and seeing them push for AFL selection, helping them get better is what I’m passionate about so I’m really looking forward to it.”
Adelaide’s SANFL side will don a new away guernsey this season, which will be worn when there is a guernsey clash.
The new blue strip is a version of the Club’s AFL clash guernsey which was announced on Friday.
The State League side wore a white based guernsey for the first six seasons, before adopting the red based guernsey which will continue to be the main design worn at SANFL level.
