Sam Jacobs’ impressive form this season has sparked debate as to whether the talented ruckman could become one of Adelaide’s best trade-week recruits of all time.

Originally recruited by Carlton with pick No.1 in the 2007 Rookie Drafted, Jacobs returned to his native South Australia in trade week, 2010. The Crows secured the former Woodville-West Torrens junior in exchange for pick Nos.34 and 67 in the AFL National Draft. The Blues used those selections to snare Glenelg defender Patrick McCarthy and also Andrew McInnes, who made his AFL debut against Collingwood last week.

Adelaide has pulled off several masterstrokes at the trade table since its inception into the AFL. Games record holder Andrew McLeod arrived at West Lakes as part of a trade with Fremantle in 1994. All-Australian full-back Nathan Bassett started his career on the rookie list at Melbourne before being traded to the Crows, and a remarkable 11 members of the Club’s 1997-1998 premiership teams landed at Adelaide in exchange periods.

Reigning Club Champion Scott Thompson was another trade-week coup. Thompson became a Crow after Melbourne reluctantly agreed to trade him for pick No.12 in the 2003 national draft -that pick was then on-traded to Richmond and used to select Danny Meyer.

Like most Clubs, the Crows have also made player swaps that weren’t as successful.

Below is Adelaide’s full trade history. Who do you think is the Club’s best-ever trade-week recruit?
