Adelaide coach Neil Craig says he was amazed and proud of the fans who turned up for Saturday night's Showdown.

Nearly 43,000 supporters were at AAMI Stadium despite the gloomy forecast of heavy rain and gale force winds and many of these people stayed until the end.

"Our supporters were outstanding on Saturday night," Craig said. "It would have been the easy option for our supporters to stay at home and watch it live on TV but to the credit of those 43,000 they made the effort.

"The people who sat out in the outer deserve some credit for the win and I can assure them that the players and everyone involved at the club were amazed at their loyalty because the weather conditions were terrible.

"I've repeatedly said that our supporters are a very powerful group and they showed that again on Saturday night."
