Crows confirm two changes
The Crows have finalised the team to play North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Sunday
Vince returns after serving a one-match ban for striking Fremantle utility Zac Clarke before the bye, while McKernan will play his first game since being suspended - also for one game - in Adelaide’s win over Sydney in round six.
Chris Knights and Josh Jenkins (both omitted) are the players to make way.
Recruited from Essendon during trade week, Jenkins has showed promise in five games this season.
Coach Brenton Sanderson said McKernan had been recalled to add to the team’s ruck depth.
“Josh hasn’t done much wrong, but he probably just hasn’t had as much time in the ruck as we’ve needed,” Sanderson told afc.com.au.
“It’s a good opportunity with us having a fit squad and everyone playing well for him to go back to Sturt and keep working on his ruck work. He’s been valuable. He’s taken a good defender, which has allowed Kurt Tippet and Taylor Walker to have good games, but McKernan deserves another opportunity.
“Those two guys (Jenkins and McKernan) are probably fighting for the same spot. Shaun didn’t do much wrong before he got suspended and has been playing well for South.”
Knights started as the substitute in his first game for the season against St Kilda last week and played limited game time. Sanderson said he expected the left-footer to continue to push for selection over the coming weeks.
“Chris didn’t do anything wrong. He came on and actually played okay, but with Vince coming back we just couldn’t pick them all and Chris will go back to the Eagles,” he said.
“It’s important he just keeps playing footy because he hasn’t had much game time this year at any level. He’ll certainly get back and be right in the mix for us in the second half of the season.”
Veteran Graham Johncock will also gain match practice in the SANFL.
Johncock, who missed the win over the Saints with a back injury, will make a rare appearance for the Port Magpies on Saturday.
“Graham only started training again a few days ago,” Sanderson said.
“Having been the sub in Perth and then getting injured over the break, he really hasn’t had much footy at all. He just needs a full game to run around and get some match fitness.”
The match against the Kangaroos will be skipper Nathan van Berlo’s 150th game.
