ONCE were teammates, co-captains in fact, but now Mitch Harvey and Riley Knight will be the best of rivals.

Harvey and Knight were selected by Port Adelaide and Adelaide with consecutive picks at the NAB AFL Draft on Thursday night, officially ending the days of celebrating wins together as former co-captains of St Peter's College 1st XIVIII.

The Power took Harvey at pick No.45 and the Crows took Knight with 46.

While both were thrilled to join an AFL list in their home state, Knight admitted a little rivalry would now be introduced to their friendship.

"I'll tell you what, I'm looking forward to the first Showdown between myself and Mitch. That'll be very interesting," Knight joked.

"We're just really stoked that we'll be able to stay with each other and be able to stay with our friends and all that sort of stuff.

"He's a really nice bloke and I'm really fortunate to have a mate like him to play alongside and now go through this next phase of my life with him."

Knight, an inside midfielder who hails from South Australia's Clare Valley and boarded at St Peter's for the final two years of his schooling, grew up an Essendon supporter but is quick to admit his allegiance has changed.

Harvey, on the other hand, is a Power supporter and could not be happier.

Despite Harvey's family connection to Collingwood, where his uncle Matthew Rendell is the recruiting manager, the tall forward didn't think he'd end up at the Magpies.

"I've always been Port man which is, again, just adds to the whole 'dream come true' sort of thing," Harvey said.
