A rough conduct charge against midfielder Scott Thompson has been upheld by the AFL Tribunal.

Thompson, who didn’t risk suspension by challenging the charge, is free to play against Carlton at the MCG on Saturday, but is ineligible to win the Brownlow Medal because he's been found guilty of a charge.

The reigning Crows Club Champion has 93.75 carry over points towards his future record after unsuccessfully arguing his contact with Western Bulldogs defender Brett Goodes was not ‘high’.

Thompson was charged by the Match Review Panel after the incident in the third quarter of Sunday’s game at AAMI Stadium.

The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level One offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction.

He has an existing six-year good record, reducing the sanction by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record. An early plea would’ve reduced the sanction by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 70.31 points towards his future record.
