The Adelaide Crows Children’s Foundation is encouraging all supporters to wear a touch of yellow and give generously to our collectors at the gates at the Club's Round 21 clash with Brisbane in memory of former Assistant Coach Dean Bailey.
At the start of the 2015 season the Adelaide Crows Children’s Foundation invited input from the Leadership group and Senior Coach on causes they felt passionate about and would like to support as a team this season. Led by Patrick Dangerfield and Phil Walsh, all agreed to support those affected by cancer in memory of Dean Bailey. The Cancer Council SA will be our official charity partner for the game with all proceeds raised directly supporting families affected by cancer.
In South Australia, 25 people are diagnosed with cancer every day. Unfortunately Dean Bailey was one of those and it was only four months later that he lost his courageous battle.
Thanks to Holidays of Australia, volunteers will be giving out 17,500 clap banners before the game and supporters can dedicate their banner to someone who has touched their life through cancer.
Write their name on the front and together the crowd will be prompted to hold them up before the bounce to create a sea of yellow.
Fans can also get involved on social media by using the hashtags #dday #weflyasone and by mentioning @CancerCouncilSA and @Adelaide_fc.
Anyone who would like to make a donation and can’t make it to the game can do so by texting CURE to 0475 444 555.
Cancer Council SA Chief Executive Lincoln Size says the game is a great opportunity to show support for one another while bringing the defeat of cancer another step closer.
“In 2013, there were a total of 51,000 people with Cancer in SA - that’s the equivalent of a sold-out match at Adelaide Oval," Size said.
“This is a wonderful chance to wear a bit of yellow and support those affected by cancer in a united effort in the fight.
“Your support also means Cancer Council can continue to support families affected by cancer.”
