The skilled left-footer kicked an incredible snap from deep in the south-eastern pocket at Adelaide Oval.

Atkins received a handball from fellow youngster Riley Knight and quickly wheeled onto his trusty left boot while under close attention from Lions midfielder Dayne Zorko. He snapped truly to record the first of two goals against Brisbane on Saturday night.

Atkins finished with 18 possessions, seven marks and four tackles alongside his two majors in another promising performance from the third-year Crow.

He joins Eddie Betts to be in the running for the AFL’s Goal of the Year title. Betts has earned four weekly nominations this season, but his torpedo from the boundary against Fremantle was the Club’s first contender in the main draw earlier this year.

Midfielders Patrick Dangerfield (Round One) and Scott Thompson (Round Five) have also been nominated but both men failed to progress beyond the weekly vote.
