Adelaide had 10 different goalkickers at the MCG on Friday night including six players who booted multiple goals: Eddie Betts (three), Jarryd Lyons, Josh Jenkins, Taylor Walker, Mitch McGovern and Tom Lynch (two each).

Walker also had three goal assists – more than any other player in the game.

The Crows scored from 35.4 per cent of their forward 50m entries against Hawthorn – only Collingwood (40 per cent) and Melbourne (35.7 per cent) were more efficient in Round Five.

The Hawks were less efficient inside 50m but had far more opportunities with the Crows giving up 60 inside 50ms for the match, while only generating 48 of their own.

Scott Thompson was the leading possession-getter on the ground with 33. Thompson also laid seven tackles, took an equal-team high six marks and won six clearances to continue his strong start to the season.

Richard Douglas led the way in clearances with seven for the match.

At quarter time, the Crows were ahead by six in the clearance count. From that point on, Hawthorn got on top in the middle and finished with 47 clearances to Adelaide’s 38, including 21 centre clearances to the visitors’ 12.

Rory Sloane had 16 contested possessions, second only to Hawthorn match winner Paul Puopolo (17). Nine of Sloane’s contested possessions came in the first quarter. He also had three clearances and four tackles in a brilliant opening term.

Sloane finished with 11 hard-ball gets – second only to Richmond skipper Trent Cotchin (12) for the round.

 

 

The Hawks only led for 35 per cent of Friday night’s blockbuster but were ahead when it mattered. Hawthorn has now won its past three games by three points each.

The loss sees Adelaide slip out of the top eight with three wins and two losses. The Club’s two defeats this season have been by a combined total of 13 points.

Three of the Club’s five games have been decided by 10 points or less: losses to Hawthorn and North Melbourne, and a narrow win over the Sydney Swans.

David Mackay laid a team-high 10 tackles against the Hawks.

Kyle Cheney generated a team-high six rebound 50ms.

Rory Atkins, Tom Lynch and Brodie Smith each finished with six inside 50m entries.

Smith collected more handball receives (23) than any other player in Round Five.

The Crows have kicked in excess of 100 points in four of their five matches in 2016.

The ANZAC Day long weekend saw the sixth-highest crowd total for a round in the AFL-VFL competition's history. A total of 364,538 people watched the nine matches. The crowd numbers through five rounds have set a new record of 1,652,245, eclipsing the mark set in 2013.
