Adelaide defender Chelsea Biddell says entering the Qualifying Final against North Melbourne with an underdog tag is fuelling their charge for a flag push.

The Crows’ will head into the Friday night blockbuster with a point to prove after losing to the Kangaroos in Week Nine by eight points.

North Melbourne also ended Adelaide’s 2023 finals campaign, with the Crows succumbing to a heartbreaking one-point Preliminary Final loss.

Speaking to AFC Media on Tuesday, Biddell said knocking off the minor premiers would be a tough challenge but was confident of causing an upset.

“Every year, people write us off but to still be in the hunt is awesome,” Biddell said.

“We’ve done well to finish in the top four this year and we just embrace the underdog tag.

“We work so hard all year to play in these sorts of games, so Doc (Senior Coach Matthew Clarke) is just telling us to embrace it and trust our process, we know when we play our best footy we can take it to anyone.

“North is a very good team and they’ve shown that all year, but if we can knock them off this week that will be great and it will give us a lot of confidence moving forward.”

At 26 years old and with Co-Captain Sarah Allan splitting her game time between the defence and midfield, Biddell is now one of the more experienced players in the Crows’ backline.

Being a leader down back has, however, helped Biddell take her game to another level.

This year, she has averaged a career-best 13.4 disposals at 80.9 per cent efficiency, 5.1 rebounds inside defensive-50 and 3.1 one percenters across 11 games.

She said resting on her laurels was never an option and a hunger to win the one-on-one battles spurred her on.

“It is very stressful playing in the backline and we have a younger group back there but everyone is playing their role and doing really well,” Biddell said.

“A lot of that (the improvement) comes down to the work I put in during the off-season and pre-season, working hard on my strength, speed and vertical jump, so it is harder to beat me.

“I like the body work side of things, so I just make sure I’m using my strength and not letting my opponent get the ball

“I feel like adding that leadership ledger has taken my game to a new level as well, but as a backline, we just trust each other to play our roles.”

Adelaide takes on North Melbourne at Ikon Park on Friday at 6.45pm (ACDT).

The match will be broadcast on 7Mate Adelaide from 6.30pm, as well as on Kayo and Fox Footy.
