When you think of Indigenous players, you think of Crows great Andrew McLeod, Essendon legend Michael Long, Gavin Wanganeen, Adam Goodes, Peter Matera and current day marvels such as Eddie Betts.
Speaking on afc.com.au’s regular The Pods Cast, forward Josh Jenkins revealed his favourite Indigenous player was from a different ilk, a man he spent time with at Essendon.
“Typically a lot of the Indigenous guys are fast, they’re shorter guys that run up and down the field like Charlie [Cameron] and Eddie [Betts] and those guys,” Jenkins said.
“But mine’s actually a ruckman and he plays for Port. His name’s Paddy Ryder.
“You don’t see a lot of Indigenous ruckmen, or key position players, and his touch and the goal he kicked the other night. He’s a great player, great guy as well, so little bit biased but he can have my gig.”
