Greater Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron's thoughts after his Club's 16-point win over the Crows at Adelaide Oval.
On not giving Adelaide the momentum …
Tonight when they came at us in the third quarter, I think it was a lopsided inside 50 count. When they came at us again in the last quarter, we dug in and found a way. I was rapt as a coach to see that, especially in front of a hostile crowd but also a side that was coming pretty hard at us. We are rapt with the win, it’s probably one of our better wins for a number of years to win over here.
On coaching from the bench …
We haven’t had great success here, against the Crows especially, it’s one of the hardest away trips to win here. There’s no doubt our confidence levels as a playing group have taken a bit of a dent the last month and we are in games and all of a sudden the scoreboard ticks over and we are down by two-three goals. So, it was really just to maintain our fundamentals, reinforcing that we are doing a lot right, having one-on-one time with every player when they come off.
On handling Adelaide Oval …
It’s probably not the ground more, it’s just dealing with the atmosphere I reckon. Clearly when there are 45,000 supporters that probably aren’t supporting you, you’ve got to be able to deal with that. In the past, we have at times but sometimes we haven’t. So, it’s probably dealing with the crowd, and not allowing Adelaide to get momentum. And that was the pleasing thing in the third and the fourth. When they did get on top, and the crowd was behind them, I thought we had some really crucial moments that everyone stood up and played their role at that particular time. They probably could have kicked three or four in the third, but we kept them to one or two.
