Adelaide’s SANFL side has suffered a 53-point loss to Glenelg, despite strong performances from ruckman Paul Hunter and midfielder Cam Ellis-Yolmen.
The Crows trailed by just 11 points at the main break, but a dominant second half from the Tigers saw the home team finish 18.7 (115) to 9.8 (62).
Glenelg forward Liam McBean booted nine goals and proved quite the headache for Crows defenders Darcy Fogarty and Andy Otten.
Hunter - who took the reins from ruckman Reilly O’Brien after his call-up to the AFL side - impressed with 37 hitouts and five tackles.
Ellis-Yolmen was a ball magnet in the middle of the ground and gathered 36 touches, five inside 50’s and nine centre clearances.
Lachlan Sholl, 19, brought plenty to the match including 34 touches and eight rebound 50’s.
Myles Poholke was a model of consistency, kicking three goals and recording the same number of touches (25) as he did against Sturt last weekend.
Patrick Wilson thrived off Hunter’s performance in the ruck, managing 10 clearances, 25 touches and a goal.
State League coach Heath Younie said it was a tough night for the side.
“We won clearances, we just couldn’t hold it ahead of the ball,” Younie said.
“They were able to rebound quickly out of our back 50 and were really efficient when they went forward.
“That’s not how we want to play, it was really disappointing right across the board.”
Younie said Glenelg deserved full credit for the win and that both teams “got what they deserved”.
“They played really strong footy and in the end taught us a lesson on how to compete and how to move the ball,” he said.
Andrew McPherson suffered a hamstring injury at the 20-minute mark of the first quarter and did not return to the match.
