Dashing half-back Brodie Smith operated at a remarkable 100 per cent disposal efficiency in Adelaide’s 16-point win over Collingwood at the MCG on Sunday.

Smith generated plenty of drive from defence, collecting 24 possessions and seven rebound 50ms. The 22-year-old took five marks, sent the ball inside 50m three times and kicked two long-range goals. He also gained more metres (557) than any other Crow in a damaging display.

Patrick Dangerfield was Adelaide’s leading possession-getter. Dangerfield, who avoided a heavy tag for one of the few times this season, finished with 26 disposals, six clearances, five rebound 50ms, five inside 50ms and four tackles. Instead, Rory Sloane attracted the attention of Collingwood tagger Brent Macaffer. Sloane was able to work through the tag, collecting 19 possessions, four clearances and a brilliant long goal when the Crows were struggling to kick straight in the first half.

Rising Star runner-up Brad Crouch was also influential at the stoppages. Crouch gathered 25 touches and laid a team-high nine tackles. He won six clearances and generated three inside 50ms as his comeback from injury gained more momentum.

Richard Douglas played a key role in his 150^th game. In the absence of injured tagger Sam Kerridge, Douglas went head-to-head with Magpies captain Scott Pendlebury. Douglas held Pendlebury to 26 touches and a goal, while racking up 20 disposals, a game-high eight inside 50ms and two timely goals of his own. In-form ruckman Sam Jacobs gave his midfielders first use, winning 43 hit-outs and four clearances to go with 10 possessions.

Smalls Brodie Martin, Matthew Jaensch and Rory Laird also contributed to the crucial win. Martin and Jaensch each gathered 22 possessions and kicked a goal. Laird had 21 possessions, including 11 in the first quarter. He also took five marks and laid four tackles. Substitute Mitch Grigg made an impact when he was introduced into the game in the fourth quarter, amassing nine possessions, three marks, three clearances and a goal assist in less than 30 minutes of game time.

Forward Taylor Walker also starred in the final term. Walker kicked two of his three goals in a match-defining fourth quarter performance. The imposing goalkicker finished the match with 14 touches, five marks (including four inside 50m), three goals and four goal assists.

Young defender Daniel Talia enjoyed a great battle with Magpies spearhead Travis Cloke. Cloke finished with three goals, but Talia fought hard in one-on-one contests. He collected 15 disposals, six marks and a game-high 10 one percenters.
