Adelaide returned to the winners' list, beating Norwood by 24 points on Friday night.
The Crows bounced back from a loss to Sturt in Round Six - before last weekend's League-wide bye - to beat the Redlegs at Norwood Oval 8.12 (60) to 5.6 (36).
Friday night marked 1419 days since the Crows had won at Norwood.
Here are the five key takeaways.
Back six stand strong
Adelaide’s back six was impressive at nullifying Norwood’s inside 50s.
The Crows held the Redlegs to just 11 scoring shots from 41 entries.
In both the first and third term, Adelaide kept Norwood goalless, despite the hosts having a combined 18 entries inside-50 in the two quarters.
Defenders Luke Nankervis, James Borlase, Mark Keane, Will Hamill, Blayne O’Laughlin, Jack Madgen and debutant Jaidan Kappler all spent time down back, helping limit the damage.
“Defensively today I thought that was as good as we have played,” SANFL Senior Coach Michael Godden told AFC Media.
“That was a tough game, no one could really get any ascendancy and the ball wasn’t getting out in open space, but the defenders held up really well.”
Schoenberg’s fast start
Midfielder Harry Schoenberg set the tone early against the Redlegs, winning plenty of the ball and helping launch Adelaide inside-50.
Schoenberg amassed 20 disposals by half-time, after working hard both ways to influence the game and gave Adelaide first use.
“Tonight he put his head down and went to work and I am glad he got the reward,” Godden said.
“He played with really good method but he also plays with really good spirit, he is a good teammate and I am really happy with his performance.”
Schoenberg finished with 29 disposals, six tackles, four clearances and five inside-50s.
Gollant perseveres
Forward Lachlan Gollant competed hard for Adelaide, working his way up the ground to win the ball and impact the contest.
While he was unable to get the reward on the scoreboard in the first half, Gollant remained undeterred and persevered, booting two goals in the second half.
“For Lachie when you are playing the medium to tall forward role you just have to keep jumping at the footy and he did,” Godden said.
“He kept competing throughout the contest and got the reward in the end which is great for him.”
Gollant capped a strong game, collecting 21 disposals, seven marks and four inside-50s.
Adelaide wins midfield battle
Godden was impressed with Adelaide's midfield brigade, including Matt Crouch, Jackson Hately Billy Dowling and Sam Berry.
Crouch amassed a game-high 30 disposals, six tackles and five clearances, while Jackson Hately had 20 touches and six inside-50s.
Dowling was also able to get on the end of two goals, to go along with 13 disposals, while Sam Berry finished the game with 25 disposals, eight clearances and a goal.
“I thought the midfielders as a whole were really good,” Godden said.
“The contest is where you lose it because if you lose that, then you lose at Norwood and we didn’t do that tonight so we did well.”
Strachan goes forward
Adelaide ruckmen Kieran Strachan had his hands full battling SANFL State Team ruckman Harry Boyd however, was able to hold his own to lead the game in hit-outs, finishing with 28.
Strachan was also able to go up forward and hit the scoreboard, after taking a big contested grab at the top of the goal square.
“We made a change at half-time to put Kieran forward, we thought he was looking really dangerous there and he showed that,” Godden said.
“He’s good in both areas of the ground, ruck or forward.”
Strachan finished with nine disposals, five tackles and two clearances.
Adelaide will look to continue its strong form when it takes on Glenelg at Glenelg Oval next Saturday (June 3) at 2:10pm.
