On the Crows’ fourth-quarter comeback
We didn’t play four quarters, did we? Not good enough in the last, in particular. I thought we were pretty brave for most of the night, Adelaide elevated effort in the last quarter and we just couldn’t match it. Tried to move a few pieces around but we just got smashed in the contest.
Our method’s pretty good… reacting to a team that really takes you on and probably the will to win [from Adelaide] was the evident part in the last quarter and we couldn’t match that. Keeping your hands on the ball helps, that’s about the contests. Clearances, I think we got touched up in the last quarter.
Other than that 15 minute period, I thought we were pretty brave but unfortunately, we couldn’t sustain it. When you can’t sustain it interstate you’re going to get whacked. We anticipated some things at the start of the last; we picked it but could not stop it.
On Adelaide’s momentum
A ground like this is about momentum, it’s about field position and we didn’t have a lot of field position throughout the night. But we hung in there and when we had our turn we converted. The start of the last we didn’t hang in there so it’s pretty straightforward.
We played Yeo down back and that was an interesting battle and in the last we tried to flip Yeo back on ball and McGovern back but momentum was so strong at the time it was hard to stop.
On injuries and player input
Personnel’s one thing every club goes through. I mean look at Adelaide and what they’ve endured this year. Some of the criticism they’ve copped has been unfair due to the total number of injuries they’ve got. You need your good players in the side but it’s also great learning for your depth and kids coming through. That’s just reality.
I don’t know if it was one particular player in the last, I reckon every player for the Crows stood up and dragged the whole team, and the crowd, over the line, where perhaps we didn’t get that.
