Defenders Matt Jaensch, Nick Joyce and Will Young have progressed to full training after starting the pre-season on modified programs.

Jaensch and Woodville-West Torrens recruit Joyce both had shoulder reconstructions towards the end of last season and were restricted to non-contact drills prior to Christmas, while Young was limited to running laps after breaking his fibula in Norwood’s semi-final loss to Central District.

Physical performance manager Stephen Schwerdt said Jaensch and Joyce had completed a large part of the pre-season despite not being able to join in full-contact drills until this month.

“Jaensch and Joyce have done a lot of footy training and all of the conditioning work,” Schwerdt told afc.com.au.

“The recovery period from a shoulder reconstruction is generally five-and-a-half or six months and in that time the players have to avoid heavy physical contact.

“That time has passed now, so both of those boys are back doing everything with the main group.”

The Crows were able to train on AAMI Stadium for the first time this pre-season on Monday.

The session was also Young’s first with his teammates for the summer.

“Will did a lot of work indoors before Christmas and then started running again over the break,” Schwerdt said.

“He was out there training today no worries, so he’s into it full bore now.”

Defender Andy Otten has started running less than a week after straining the media ligament in his left knee at training.

Otten is expected to re-join the main group in 1-2 weeks.

Adelaide’s first round of NAB Cup games against Port Adelaide and Carlton will be held at AAMI Stadium on Sunday, February 26.
