In Dream Team preview: Part twoafc.com.au takes a look at the players who have impressed early on the track and the roughies to consider in 2012.

Early Speed
Patrick Dangerfield ($349,800) Fwd/Mid:
we all know Dangerfield has outstanding pace, but it’s been his endurance running that has caught the eyes of the Crows coaching staff this pre-season. A bigger engine could allow the emerging star to spend more time in the midfield, making him one to watch in 2012.

Sam Jacobs ($434,200) Ruc: the 203cm ruckman was a revelation for the Crows in 2011 and is on track for another big year, having completed nearly every session of the pre-season. Jacobs regularly plays as Adelaide’s sole ruckman, which makes him capable of posting big Dream Team scores. Averaged a whopping 32.2 hit outs in 2011 and still with less than 50 games of experience will only get better.

Jared Petrenko ($341,300) Mid: Petrenko made a strong impact in 2011, posting some impressive DT scores in the second half of the season. He has worked tirelessly on his aerobic running over the pre-season in an effort to spend more time playing in the midfield. If the pacey 22-year-old can find some more consistency in 2012 he could be a fantastic pick-up for your side.

Taylor Walker ($296,400) Fwd: ‘Tex’ looks set for a break-out year up forward. He has enjoyed a strong pre-season, adding some extra muscle to his 192cm frame and the new coach appears to be a fan. Key forwards are always a risk, but at $296,400, Walker is well-priced and is sure to skyrocket in value.

Roughies
Ian Callinan ($217,000) Fwd: after spending most of season 2011 on the sidelines with a bicep injury, Callinan eventually made his debut in round 14, impressing with 89 DT points. The hard nut has the ability to play forward as well as in the midfield, and could be a handy inclusion in your team.

Matthew Jaensch ($338,300) Def: Jaensch showed promise in 13 games last year, averaging 18 disposals before suffering a season ending shoulder injury. The skilful 22-year-old posted some solid DT scores last season, and should improve on last season’s form. Is listed as a defender, but also has the capacity to play forward or even in the midfield.

Chris Knights ($375,300) Fwd/Mid: managed 16 games in 2011, averaging 75.88 DT points. Has been cruelled by injury in recent seasons, but is a proven ball winner and goalkicker and could be an attractive proposition as a dual-position player. Worth considering.
