The Adelaide Crows AFL Women’s team will crown its inaugural award winners at the 2017 Club Champion presentation in the Northern Territory on Wednesday, March 29.
The event at SKYCITY Darwin will celebrate the Club’s debut AFLW season and feature a host of awards including leading goal kicker, defensive player of the year, the players’ player and Club Champion.
The Crows women’s team is in partnership with AFLNT, with nine members of the squad based in Darwin.
The NT Government has been a strong supporter of the team, providing $300,000 in financial backing across two years.
Northern Territory Chief Minister Michael Gunner said the state was excited to host the historic event.
“I’m delighted that the inaugural Adelaide Crows Women’s Club Champion Awards will be held in Darwin,” Mr Gunner said.
“Late last year, we doubled the funding to the Adelaide Crows women’s team as part of our ongoing dedication to women’s and girls’ sport. Our agreement with the Adelaide Crows is also a great promotion of the Northern Territory, in particular throughout South Australia.
“What this national AFLW competition has done for women’s sport is truly inspirational and it’s great to see so many women and girls pulling on the boots as a direct result.
“The Crows in particular have a had a great season to date and I wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.”

The presentation in Darwin will follow the AFL Women’s Competition’s ‘W Awards’ in Melbourne on Tuesday, March 28.
On that night, the competition's best and fairest award – akin to the Brownlow Medal – will presented.
There will also be a leading goalkicker award, a NAB AFL Women's Rising Star medal (handed to the best player under the age of 21), and an award for best-afield in the Grand Final. Crows midfielder Ebony Marinoff, who was nominated in Round One, is in the running for the Rising Star award.
The AFL has decided to wait for the Women’s Competition to develop before attaching names or titles to the major awards.
