Adelaide forward Taylor Walker has opened up about kicking the winning goal in the Crows’ one-point win over Melbourne at Adelaide Oval.
Skipper Rory Sloane fed Walker an inside 50 in the dying minute of the nail-biting game, giving him the chance to boot Adelaide into the lead.
Five minutes prior to the match-securing goal he’d missed a set shot, which Walker said left him slightly shaken.
But some wise words from a teammate helped ease the nerves.
“When I took the mark I thought, ‘Oh s***, I didn’t kick the last one well’,” Walker told Triple M’s Roo & Ditts.
“So our runner Marco Bello came out and said ‘You’ve got 30 seconds, take the full 30 seconds’.
“I was like, I don’t want to be taking this after the siren, I just want to get on with it.
“I was quite nervous, to the point that Paul Seedsman came over to me and said, ‘Just trust your process’.
“It actually calmed me right down.”
Seedsman also played an impressive game with 35 touches, eight marks, four tackles and 626 metres gained.
The midfielder is averaging career bests in disposals and marks in his 2021 season.
“His form has been outstanding and it’s gone a long way to helping us win games of footy, as we’ve seen again on the weekend,” Walker said.
