Adelaide forward Taylor Walker wants a farewell tour for retiring commentating legend Bruce McAvaney.
On Sunday night, McAvaney announced his retirement from AFL broadcasting, effective immediately.
Walker, who described the veteran match caller as an “amazing gentleman”, told Triple M’s Roo & Ditts one exchange that summed McAvaney up perfectly.
“I remember one day my mates were down here and they went to the Morphettville Racecourse and crossed paths with him on the way in,” Walker told co-hosts Mark Ricciuto and Chris Dittmar.
“There would have been a dozen of them, all introduced themselves… on the way out at the end of the day they were pissed and he was sober.
“He went up to every single one of them and said ‘g’day Ditts, great to meet you. Hey Roo, how are you going?’.
“Every single one of their names he remembered, it was phenomenal.
“We’ve been so lucky to hear his voice for so long.”
On Saturday, the Crows played a trial match against Port Adelaide at Alberton Oval, with former Power player Billy Frampton kicking three goals.
Walker said it was reward for effort for the tall forward.
“He’s had a great pre-season to be honest,” Walker said.
“Was great to see him get some reward for what he’s been able to do over the summer.
“Ben Keays has been a great pick up (as well), he gives us some spark through the midfield but when he went forward in the second half he hit the scoreboard a couple of times.
“There will be a few stiff boys (for selection), we’ve got a very healthy list at the moment and some boys are playing really good footy.”
Adelaide will face Port Adelaide again this weekend in a Community Series match at Noarlunga Oval this Sunday at 3.40pm ACDT.
