Being recognised on the street is not for everyone, but Adelaide recruit Jackson Hately has enjoyed interacting with Crows fans since returning to footy-mad South Australia.
Hately told AFC Media he was thrilled to be back in a traditional football market after two years at Greater Western Sydney, who joined the League in 2012.
“There has been a few times so far where you’re walking by and someone will say ‘Go the Crows’ or something like that which is great,” Hately said.
“You didn’t get too much of that in Sydney.”
While he has only been with Adelaide for a few weeks, Hately said having a large and passionate fan base behind him is “what you want as a player”.
And he wants to repay the faith shown by the Crows family, from both a team and individual standpoint.
“The fans that the Club has are unbelievable,” Hately said.
“To have that support for the Club is something that we’re all super thankful for.”
Hately said he cannot wait to run out onto Adelaide Oval as a Crow, hopeful of COVID-19 restrictions being eased in the coming months to allow more members and fans into the venue this year.
He is determined to create a new favourite football memory during his tenure at West Lakes, eager to top his victory with South Australia at the AFL Under 18 Championships in 2018.
“It’s probably number one so far to win a national championship with those guys. It was such a great group and we were all a really close group,” Hately said.
“I keep in touch with Izak Rankine a little bit, Luke Valente too. I think you’re always just keeping an eye on those guys and they’re all going really well, which has been awesome to see.
“We came through from the under 15s, 16s together and then to win that national championship was really special.
“Hopefully we can have some success here and I can say I’ve got a new favourite footy memory.”
