New Crows AFLW assistant coach Scott Thompson is relishing the chance to help the Crows AFLW team grow in 2021.
A Club Champion, Thompson played 308 AFL games and returns to the Club after several years at Port Adelaide.
Luckily, Thompson already knows the bulk of the team through his gym work at Arruda earlier this year.
When AFLW senior coach Matthew Clarke gave him a call and asked whether he would be interested in helping out, Thompson said it would be “a good fit”.
“I got to learn a fair bit about probably a dozen of them over the last six months, so when Doc Clarke hit me up to help out, it just fell into place that I can lend a helping hand,” Thompson said.
“It’s nice to have some involvement in the game that gave me so much joy over a long period of time and to do it at a Club with an up and coming bunch of young women has been great.
“If I can give back a little bit and help educate the girls and better their own games to some extent, beautiful.”
One of Thompson’s favourite elements of the role will be helping to develop the more inexperienced players.
“The beautiful part about it is, if some of them don’t have a huge background in football, they’re all ears when it comes to gaining information and soaking up the knowledge you can give them,” Thompson said.
“The girls really pride themselves on working hard and getting better and growing their own games.
“I love seeing the way they go about their training and I’m really looking forward to working with them a little bit closer.”
Thompson is working closely with Crows forward Tom Lynch who will be overseeing the AFLW forward line.
