Jessica Sedunary lives and breathes sport and fitness.
That is evident when Sedunary talks about her offseason in the lead up to the 2018 AFLW season.
“I had a pretty tough offseason, I decided to work really hard,” 27-year-old Sedunary said.
“I got a lot of extra kilometres on the bike, a lot of extra skills training and some one on one’s with the coaches.
“When we had days in the gym, I’d cycle to West Lakes from Mawson Lakes, so it would be about a 36km round trip and I did that about three times a week in the offseason.
“It would make the gym session about three hours, one hour in the gym, a skills session for half an hour and then riding back home.
“I’ve lost 8-9 kilos since the end of last season, which wasn’t really planned, I wanted to lose a little bit but I ended up losing a little bit more.”
As fans will find out in the second instalment of BHP’s Down to Earth series, Sedunary has spent most of her life heavily involved in sport and fitness.
“There hasn’t been much of my life that I haven’t been working towards a sporting goal,” Sedunary said.
The Crows midfielder, who finished fourth in the Crows best and fairest in 2017, previously competed in high level hockey and cycling, and now, when she isn’t at footy training, she works as a personal trainer and crossfit coach at Crossfit TRG.
Reaching the pinnacle in her sport last year was what gave her the drive to work so hard in the AFLW offseason.
“I guess having done a lot of sport in the past, and never quite getting that dream, having won a premiership last year really installed that confidence that if you do work hard, you can get to where you want to be and the dream can come true,” Sedunary said.
All the hard work has translated into her preseason now.
“Mentally, I play good footy when I’m confident in my training, so when I’m training hard I’m feeling my best,” she said.
“Preseason is still tough as always, but because I was prepared, it didn’t feel like a massive step up from what I was doing in the offseason.”
Now that she is back training with her teammates, Sedunary knows how much she has to enjoy the time with them.
“Having that massive time off really made you realise how much you miss your teammates,” she said.
“I haven’t played much footy in the offseason, so finally getting to play some footy is what I’m most looking forward to.”
