Adelaide has moved ruckman Kieran Strachan to the inactive list after he suffered another foot injury.
The 29-year-old had surgery on an acute navicular stress fracture in his right foot in December which saw him miss the remainder of pre-season.
After resuming running in the first week of February, Strachan reported soreness in his right heel last week with scans revealing a stress fracture, an injury unrelated to that which he suffered in November.
Facing another extended stint on the sidelines, Strachan met with the Club last week and has opted to move to the inactive list.
He is ineligible to play in 2025 but his decision has enabled the Club to replace him on the list before the start of the season.
“Kieran has made a very selfless decision and put the team first,” Crows GM List Management and Strategy Justin Reid said.
“Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game and his latest setback exposed us to significant risk in our ruck stocks particularly in the early part of the season.
“He is a very popular member of the playing group, which obviously shares in his disappointment, and at the same time would acknowledge the significance of his decision to be placed on the inactive list for the rest of the year.”
In moving Strachan to the inactive list, Adelaide last week signed 24-year-old ruckman Lachlan McAndrew under the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP).
McAndrew stands 210cm and spent four years on Sydney’s list after being recruited in the 2021 Mid-Season Rookie Draft and played two AFL games.
He has been training with the Crows since December when he signed on as a SANFL player.
“Given the timing of Kieran’s latest injury and the importance of the ruck position, it was crucial we moved quickly to find a replacement,” Reid said.
“Lachie has been very impressive with us over summer and has earned the spot on the list and I’m sure he will make the most of his opportunity.
“We completed the necessary paperwork before the SSP deadline on Friday, but with the timing of our pre-season match-simulation against Port Adelaide on Friday night, it was important for us and Kieran to be able to inform the whole playing group together on Monday.”
