When Brenton Sanderson was appointed as coach of the Crows last September, it was a homecoming of sorts for the ex-Sturt junior.

A member of Adelaide’s inaugural squad in 1991, Sanderson played six games for the Club in 1992-93 before being traded to Collingwood and then Geelong, where he established himself as a reliable defender, playing 199 games and winning the Cats’ best and fairest award in 2001.

There’s no shortage of highlights of the half-back flanker in action during his long and successful career at the Cattery, but afc.com.au has delved further into the video archives and uncovered vision of a fresh-faced Sanderson in his first two AFL games for Adelaide in ‘92.

Only 18-years old at the time, the former Crows No.36 has little recollection of his playing days at Adelaide and was only reminded of his first-ever AFL goal after watching the highlights package.

“I don’t remember much from my first few games at the Club,” Sanderson told afc.com.au.

“It was such a long time ago, but it’s good having a look at this video now.

“There are a couple of kicks in there that miss the target, so I was happy to see the left-foot shot go through near the end.

“Look at how skinny I was.

“I’m not sure what was going on with my hair either.

"Maybe, wax hadn’t been invented yet...”
