West Lakes regulars Garry Ryan and wife June haven’t missed an open Crows training session in years.

And it seems to have paid off for the loyal supporters, with Garry having all of the right ‘tips’.

Garry won the Crows Tipping Competition this season with a score of 157 out of a possible 208. The overall winning score in the Carlton Draught AFL Tipping competition was 160.

“We watch training and catch up with our friends down here all the time,” Garry said.

“When we saw there was an Adelaide Crows tipping competition we thought we’d enter because we spend so much time here and enjoy anything to do with the Crows.

“I entered the tipping competition last year and came 31st nationally this year, so I guess I haven’t done too badly.”

Garry says his luck has come from the Crows’ 17 minor round wins this season, given he has only tipped against his team once.

“I only did it once, I promise!  I know I tipped Geelong to beat the Crows when we played over there but I switched it back because I just couldn’t do it,” he revealed.

“I also tipped the Crows during those big five games when everyone was tipping against us.”

June is also a mad tipper: “Not as good as Garry but not too far behind”.

Garry’s prize includes two tickets to the Crows Club Champion function to be held at the Convention Centre on October 5.

When asked if he would take his wife along, June jumped in with a quick “he better be”.

The Ryans are boarding the train to Melbourne later this week to make sure they arrive in time for the big game on Saturday afternoon.

“The whole group of us are heading over there and we are going to go a lot better than everyone thinks,” Garry said. “In other games, we were given no chance and we pulled through.

“Hawthorne are going to find a bit of pressure on them this weekend and I’ve always said - on any given day, any side could win any game!  I really believe we are a chance!”

Garry will be entering the competition again next year. “It is in my routine now - every Friday morning on the computer,” he said. “We are in the dream teams and everything else.”
