It’s a boy!
Congratulations to Ian and Lauren Callinan, who welcomed a baby boy, Harry, into their family during the week. The couple’s second child, Harry is the brother to five-year-old, Jack. Harry, who was due almost a fortnight ago, timed his entrance into the world perfectly helping ‘Nutta’ to avoid making a decision between attending the birth and playing in games against St Kilda or North Melbourne. The Club is thrilled for the popular mature-age rookie and his family. Although, Tom Lynch will be disappointed his good mate Ian didn’t name his second child ‘Telford’ - Lynch’s middle name. The Crows are expecting another addition next month, with Michael and Sara Doughty preparing for their first child. Here’s hoping the Doughty’s baby has Harry Callinan’s sense of timing.
Sitting on Top of the World
Avid Delta Goodrem fans, Bernie Vince and Jared Petrenko were only too happy to record a video message to the Australian pop star, recently. Bernie and Pup made a heartfelt plea to Delta, asking her to perform at the annual Crows Foundation Christmas Carols in December. The boys took the campaign to Twitter, with @Adelaide_FC and @CrowsFoundation followers joining in to try to get the message to Delta herself. It took less than 48 hours for ‘The Voice’ coach to respond, ‘WOW!! Love the video guys!! Ha! Will be in touch and see what I can do! ?Delta x’. Needless to say, the boys were chuffed to have captured Delta’s attention and are anxiously anticipating the next contact with the lovely singer.
Stella Fellas
Housemates Kurt Tippett and Aidan Riley dusted off their suits and specially-designed bow ties recently in support of Project Futures, ‘Stella Fella’ campaign, aimed at raising awareness and funds to combat human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Australia and South-East Asia. Tippo and Aidan posed for photos in their suit and bow ties, much to the amusement of their gawking teammates. Come on fellas, it’s for a good cause.
Ambassadors Crowing
Several Crows Ambassadors have been busy recently. Sam Willoughby is on his way to the London Olympics after taking out the BMX World Championship in May. Cyclist Jack Bobridge has also qualified for the Australian Olympic team. Good luck to the boys! Meanwhile, former Masterchef contestant Adam Liaw took time out of the kitchen to marry long-time partner Asami Fujitsuka in Tokyo. Fellow chef and Crows Ambassador Callum Hann was also in attendance. Congratulations Adam and Asami, and good luck to Sam, Jack and the entire Aussie Olympic team.
CEO (No) Sleepout
CEO Steven Trigg, Chairman Rob Chapman, Deputy-Chairman Nigel Smart and Board Members Andrew Payze and Greg Moulton endured a sleepless night last month as part of the St Vincent De Paul Society’s annual CEO Sleepout. Held at the Adelaide Oval construction site, the event was aimed at creating awareness and raising funds to help combat homelessness. Participants had to forego bedding and blankets, left to create cubby houses out of cardboard for shelter. With little protection from the wind, rain and freezing cold, Trigg and co. got about two hours of disjointed sleep. Fortunately, they were able to return to their warm beds the following night. Others are not so fortunate.
Martin’s timely reminder
If you are going to be pulled over by the police, the last place a player would want it to happen would be in the driveway leading into the Crows training facility. Much to the mirth of team-mates attracted to the gym windows by the flashing blue lights, this happened today to young Crow Brodie Martin. But the good news is that Martin hadn’t done anything wrong - he was just getting a friendly reminder that his rego was close to running out.
Snores galore
Many of the staff travelling for interstate matches share hotel rooms. And this means that anyone with a reputation for heavy snoring is widely feared as a room partner. On one recent trip, one of the club trainers was struggling to get to sleep because of the noise from his companion. So he took his pillow and blanket and moved to the bathroom, attempting to grab a snooze in the bath and then on the floor. But the snorer woke up and needed a toilet visit - and opened the bathroom door, bang, into his grumpy roomie. A couple of hours later, the snoring one woke up and decided to turn on the TV, not realising that the sound was being piped through to the bathroom. We think this partnership is officially over.
