The Crows trailed by four points late in the second half, but Taylor Walker and Ian Callinan booted the last two goals of the match to set up the 1.5.4 (43) to 0.5.4 (34) win and ensure the Blues went home without a win from their two first-round games.

A risky torpedo punt from a kick-in by Matthew Jaensch was an indication that things have changed at West Lakes under Brenton Sanderson, but the gamble paid off as it set up a goal to Tom Lynch 10 minutes into the first half.

Lynch was the only new face in a strong line-up named by Sanderson for his first match in charge and the former Saint looked lively in a forward role.

Father-son recruit Dylan Buckley, first-round draft pick Josh Bootsma and Frazer Dale were the new boys for Carlton with Buckley the pick of the bunch with an impressive goal from a set shot.

Jeff Garlett and Shaun Hampson were the goal kickers for the Blues in the first half, but Walker made the difference nine points at half-time with a super goal in the 18th minute.

Mathew Kreuzer and Garlett goaled to help Carlton to a late lead but, in a match shortened due to soaring temperatures in Adelaide, the Blues could not keep pace with the strong-finishing Crows.

Second-year player Brodie Smith impressed for Adelaide with 10 touches, while Andy Carrazzo continued his strong form from the first match against Port Adelaide with 12 disposals.
