The AFL has confirmed Adelaide’s NAB Cup clash with the Brisbane Lions at Traeger Park on Saturday night will go ahead as planned.

The Crows’ last match in Alice Springs against Collingwood in February 2010 was played in torrential rain, with one end of the ground almost completely under water in the second half.

Rain is forecast for the region again on Saturday night, but football operations general manager Phil Harper said there was no danger of the game being called off.

“Traeger Park is an excellent surface and as long as it’s given time to drain there shouldn’t any problems,” Harper said.

“The issue in the game against Collingwood (in 2010) was that Alice Springs had 100mms of rain during the match and the water just had nowhere to go.

“The forecast indicates we’ll get a lot less rain in comparison while the match is in progress on Saturday night.

“The game will definitely go ahead and we’re very comfortable heading up there to play.”

Video coverage of the clash with the Lions will be available via a link on afc.com.au.

Radio station FIVEaa will also broadcast the game, which starts at 8:10pm SA time.
