Adelaide’s observer had Griffin down for 12 kicks, nine handballs and 23 hit outs and was particularly impressed with his ruckwork in the centre square and his efforts to get involved around the ground.
Brad Symes, playing his first game of 2009, also was rated among Central’s best in its eight-point win over the Eagles. He started slowly but was busy in the second and third terms and finished with 15 kicks and 12 handballs.
For the Eagles, Jarrhan Jacky played at half-forward and had some good moments while collecting 10 kicks and seven handballs.
Shaun McKernan booted a goal with his first kick for the Panthers against West Adelaide. He started at centre half-forward (against Brad Moran) and also spent time in defence and in ruck, finishing with seven kicks and one handball.
Moran (eight kicks, six handballs) played well for West and had an influence on the game when switched into the ruck in the second term. Rookie Chris Schmidt picked up eight kicks and 15 handballs in the midfield and across half back, where he was creative.
James Sellar played forward and in the ruck for Glenelg in its win over Sturt. He had three kicks and eight handballs and kicked 1.1. Brodie Martin started at half back but became one of Sturt’s better players when switched to a wing. He had 13 kicks and 10 handballs.
In the SANFL reserves, Will Young had a solid game for Norwood (14 kicks, four handballs, four marks) at centre half back and Aaron Kite (nine kicks, four handballs) started well on wing before fading.
Tom Lee had four kicks from four marks for Sturt and Brian Donnelly had nine possessions at centre half-back for Glenelg.
North Adelaide (Nick Gill, Tony Armstrong and Phil Davis) had the bye.
