Adelaide has added five players to its extended squad ahead of its Round Four match against Essendon this Sunday afternoon.

The Crows confirmed on Thursday morning that Irish footballer Amy Boyle Carr would debut - just nine months after being selected as a rookie.

“Amy has played in all of our scrimmages and has done really well… She’s come a long way in a short period of time,” Adelaide Head of Women’s Football Phil Harper said.

“She brings a lot of speed into our team and it’s a great story now.”

Jess Waterhouse, Deni Varnhagen, Brooke Boileau and Abbie Ballard are also included in the squad.

It is the first time Ballard has been slated for a possible selection in her comeback from an ACL injury sustained last year.

Harper said the squad inclusions had all worked hard to put their name up for selection.

“Abbie is coming off a knee reconstruction, she played three quarters of our scrimmage last week and played really well, so she’s starting to put her hand up for selection, which is great for her,” Harper said.

“Jess has played two really good games in a row during our scrimmage matches and so has Deni.

“Brooke is a first-year player finding her way and she did all the right things in the first couple of games she’s played, so she’s just waiting for another chance.”

Premiership forward Eloise Jones comes out of the side after sustaining a season-ending Achilles injury during the win against Hawthorn last weekend.

Keeley Kustermann will also miss this weekend’s game with ankle soreness.

“Keeley carried a bit of an ankle injury into last week and it really hasn’t improved, so our medical staff have suggested she has a week off,” Harper said.

Adelaide will name its final team on Friday at 4.30pm, with three players from the squad set to move to the emergency list.

Adelaide hosts Essendon at Unley Oval on Sunday at 12.35pm.
