The entire Crows playing group planted trees this week ahead of National Tree Day on Sunday.

The Crows were supporting major partner Toyota in their efforts partnering with Planet Ark. National Tree Day is organised by Planet Ark in partnership with Toyota and its dealer network which provides on the ground support at tree-planting sites Australia-wide.

Felicity Henshaw, Marketing Manager Central Region, Toyota Australia explains their involvement.

"Toyota have been supporting National Tree Day since 2000 as part of its global commitment to sustainability.  The Adelaide Football Club players have joined with us for the past six years to teach local primary school children how each tree we plant has a positive impact on the environment."

Hundreds of children from the Westport Primary School attended the planting at Semaphore Park where they ‘buddied’ up with a player to plant a tree for the cause.

After the group planted more than 40 trees, Claude the Crow entertained the children while players signed autographs.

Tree Day is about doing something positive for the environment and reconnecting with nature.  During the same event in 2011, more than 2900 Tree Day events were held where Australian’s planted over 1 million native trees, shrubs and grasses.

Crows captain and Toyota Ambassador Nathan van Berlo was pleased to be involved with the cause.

“The whole group help out for Tree Day each year.  We are happy to support Toyota, help the cause and encourage people to plant trees on Sunday” he says.

Toyota has demonstrated its genuine commitment to sustainability, minimising its impact on our environment through the creation of the Toyota Prius.

The Prius is the world’s first mass-produced hybrid vehicle to function on a combination of a petrol engine and electric motor to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
