Adelaide hopes to have Richard Tambling, Michael Doughty and Scott Stevens in the mix for selection this week.

Tambling’s ankle injury is minor and he should be okay to train later this week and Doughty is back running and is now making good progress after a badly corked thigh. Stevens (ill) will continue to be assessed as Adelaide prepares to take on Carlton at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

Luke Thompson, who made his AFL debut on Saturday night, is the only player with an injury concern out of the Balfours Showdown. He squashed an ankle in a tackle and has been on crutches since the game but is expecting to train later this week.

James Sellar, who was unable to play for Glenelg on Friday night after copping a knock to the leg on Thursday, will be available this weekend but Jared Petrenko (sore foot) is seeing a specialist on Tuesday.

Of the injured players, defender Phil Davis (shoulder) is the one most likely to return first. If he continues to make progress he could play in two or three weeks.

The best case scenario for Rory Sloane (thumb/jaw) is probably a round seven return.

Sam Shaw (hamstring) did some training with the main group last week and if he can continue to increase his workload he could be available for the SANFL in two or three weeks.

Ruckman Sam Jacobs played his first full SANFL league game of the year on Friday night with Woodville-West Torrens.

Adelaide has an open training session at Max Basheer Reserve on Tuesday from 10.00am and then a closed session on Thursday at AAMI Stadium. The team will also have a light run on Friday at 9.45am before leaving for Melbourne.
