Crows defender Josh Worrell has highlighted the intense competition for spots within Adelaide’s team, particularly praising the developing training rivalry between key defender Nick Murray and forward Riley Thilthorpe.
"Him [Thilthorpe] and Nick Murray going head-to-head is one of the great match-ups,” Worrell told the media on Wednesday.
“Their ceilings are both very high, as it is for all our players.
“It’s hot for spots right now - it’s exciting and shows the depth of our squad… It’s going to be a hot year all round if we keep injury free.”
As for himself, Worrell was setting himself the challenge of versatility in 2025, hoping to showcase his capacity to cover any player down back.
“The ability to play on talls and smalls, that will be my main focus for the year,” he said.
“We’re getting more mature (as a defensive unit) and can hold ourselves in good stead for this year.
“There’s still a few boys under 50 games, we’ve grown up here playing football together… It makes life a lot easier for chemistry.”
Worrell was also eager to watch the development of 2023 draftee Dan Curtin, who has spent time playing across the ground this preseason.
“It’s a great attribute to play all positions on the ground,” he said.
“Hopefully he can be a Mr Fix-It at times.”
Adelaide will play an internal trial in Port Pirie on February 14, before pre-season games against Port Adelaide (February 21) and Brisbane (February 27).
The Crows’ 2025 season kicks off with a clash against St Kilda at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, March 16.
