Matt Wright will take over retired veteran Michael Doughty’s No.11 guernsey next season.

Doughty’s brilliant 231-game career came to an end in Adelaide’s Preliminary Final loss to Hawthorn. After hanging up the boots, the reliable backman was more than happy to hand his jumper over to Wright, who finished ninth in the Crows Club Champion award following a standout 2012 season.

This week, Doughty tweeted a picture of the new-look No.11 locker at West Lakes:

@11Mwright @rickhenderson45 what about the new No.11 at the Crows … proud to have him in my old guernsey #getaroundhim.“

Doughty and Wright share similar beginnings, having both started their AFL careers as mature-age recruits on Adelaide’s rookie list. Wright will give up the No.47 guernsey, which he has worn in 41 matches since making his debut in Round Four, 2011.

Doughty also began his Crows career at the far end of the locker room, playing two games in the No.41 before switching to No.11 ahead of the 2001 season. He is ranked eighth in the Club’s all-time games list.

A two-time Best Team Man winner at Adelaide, Doughty will come out of retirement to play for junior club, Reynella Wineflies next year.
