Adelaide is poised to make another late call on Kurt Tippett’s fitness ahead of the match against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday night.

Tippett hasn’t played since sustaining his third concussion of the season against West Coast nearly a month ago. The influential forward was named to return for last week’s clash with Fremantle, but withdrew from the team on Friday after failing to gain final clearance from the Crows’ medical staff.

Tippett trained at West Lakes on Wednesday, and coach Brenton Sanderson said the Club would be named in the team to play the Lions.

“It’ll be the same as last week. We’ll name Kurt and then if he passes the tests he needs to get through, he’ll play,” Sanderson said on Wednesday.

“We’ll take Kurt away with us and make a decision when we’re up there. We’d much prefer Kurt be declared fit (today), so we can just play him, but it’s a bit more complicated than that. We have to make sure everything’s right before we select him. It’s all up to our medical team. I can’t fight them on that and I have to listen to what they say.

“He looks really good and has been training well. I know I said that last week … but hopefully he gets up to play on Saturday night.”

Jason Porplyzia, who missed the clash with Freo because of a bruised shoulder blade, also joined in the Club’s main training session.

“Porps will be really close,” Sanderson said.

“He trained very well today. He might be another one that we wait until a little bit later (to make a call on) but he’s close. He’s really important to our structure and our set-up, so hopefully he plays this week.”
