Crows trio Patrick Dangerfield, Rory Sloane and Brad Crouch have been recognised by their peers at the 2013 AFL Players’ Association awards night.

Dangerfield finished eighth in the AFLPA Most Valuable Player award, which was won by Gold Coast Suns champion Gary Ablett for a record-breaking fifth time. Last week, Dangerfield and midfield teammate Richard Douglas were selected in the 40-man All-Australian squad for 2013. Dangerfield also finished in the top 10 for the AFL Coaches Association Player of the Year award.

Club Champion Rory Sloane came third in the Most Courageous category. Geelong star Joel Selwood, who also took out Best Captain, claimed the Robert Rose Most Courageous Player honour ahead of Sydney Swan Dan Hannebery and Sloane.

Rising Star runner-up Brad Crouch finished third in the Best First Year Player award, which was won by promising Sun Jaeger O’Meara. Port Adelaide’s Ollie Wines came in second.

On Tuesday night, young defender Daniel Talia was also selecred in the Best 22 players under 22 years of age.

The MVP Awards remain the only peer-voted accolades in the industry, recognising versatility, the ability to play under pressure, skill, leadership, courage, respect for all players and – most importantly - overall value to a team.

The Voting Process
The process to determine this year’s MVP began as it has in previous years, with each team voting for those three teammates that, in their view, have displayed the best overall value to their own team.

In a second round of voting, all AFL players must vote in a 3, 2, 1 preference from the list of 51 nominees (three players from all clubs excluding their own) to determine the MVP.
