For Adelaide to beat Geelong in their Gather Round clash, there’s going to be one key strength of the Cats the Crows will be hoping to halt, according to Taylor Walker.
Speaking at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital alongside Cats defender Tom Stewart on Wednesday, Walker said Geelong had hurt opposition teams this season by finding space and claiming uncontested marks.
The veteran forward said limiting that would go a long way in helping the Crows overcome the Cats.
“When you look at your fixture at the start of the year, you always look forward to playing teams like Geelong. They’ve been a consistent team for a long period of time,” Walker said.
“They had a great win last week, so we are looking forward to what’s going to be an absolute cracker tomorrow night.
“I think they had their second most uncontested marks two weeks ago, so it is certainly a barometer for Geelong.
“That will be a big focus for us tomorrow night. As they try to take away one of our strengths, we’ll try to take away one of theirs.”
The Crows will kick off Gather Round for a third-straight season, taking on the Cats at Adelaide Oval in a Thursday night blockbuster.
Adelaide will enter the game with a 3-1 record, following a one-point loss to Gold Coast last weekend.
Walker has also enjoyed a solid start to his 18th AFL season, kicking 10 goals, including bags of four in Rounds Three and Four.
“I’m loving it, the saying that all good things come to an end, I’m closer to the end of my career than I am to the start, so I am enjoying every moment and being grateful for what I’ve loved doing for 18 years,” Walker said.
“I pinch myself every day I get to go in and do the job that I love and we are building something really special.”
Adelaide hosts Geelong at Adelaide Oval on Thursday at 7.10pm.
Tickets for the Crows’ Gather Round match against Geelong are now sold out.
This match is a fully ticketed event with no further tickets to be released.
The game will be broadcast live on Fox Footy, Kayo and Channel 7.
