Geelong champion Jimmy Bartel has been offered a one-match sanction for making forceful front on contact with young Crow Rory Laird at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.
Laird was forced from the ground and tested for concussion after the collision in the second quarter. The courageous defender was cleared to return to the field early in the third quarter and played out the game.
Based on the video evidence available the incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 250 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has two matches suspended within the last two years, which do not impact on this offence.
An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 187.50 points and a one-match sanction.
Cats forward James Podsiadly has also been charged by the Match Review Panel for rough conduct against Crows midfielder Richard Douglas. The incident, which took place in the fourth quarter, was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level One offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record.
An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record.
