David Mackay is expected to be fit for Adelaide’s clash with Sydney despite being subbed out in the third quarter of the loss to Fremantle on Saturday.

Mackay sustained a corked hip early in the match. He was able to return to the field but struggled to overcome the effects of the injury and was eventually handed the red vest, replaced on the field by Brodie Martin. Mackay is listed as a ‘test’ on the Club’s official injury list, but coach Brenton Sanderson was optimistic the dashing utility would be cleared to take on the Swans.

“D-Mac got a really nasty hip pointer, which is a heavy collision on the hip bone,” Sanderson said.

“Full credit to him, he gave it everything he could for us. He just didn’t quite have the power in his legs and that’s why the sub was made. He should be right for this week.”

Young Crow Nick Joyce will also be required to pass a fitness test after being concussed late in Woodville-West Torrens’ loss to Central District at Elizabeth.

Defender Sam Shaw (hamstring) is 1- 2 weeks away from a return in the SANFL, while forward Lewis Johnston will miss another month with a knee injury.
