Reigning Club Champion Scott Thompson will captain Adelaide for the first time on Sunday.

The Crows vice-captain will assume the role in the absence of injured skipper Nathan van Berlo. Van Berlo will miss up to a month after scans revealed bone bruising around his knee joint.

Thompson was elevated to Adelaide’s leadership group ahead of the 2011 season.

The 30-year-old has played 187 games for the Club since being traded from Melbourne, where he played 39 matches, at the end of 2004.

The durable star hasn’t missed a game since Round Eight, 2010. On Sunday, he will replace van Berlo as the holder of the longest consecutive games streak at Adelaide, lining up in his 65th straight match.

The prolific midfielder earned All-Australian selection for the first time last year and also claimed his second straight Club Champion award.

Deputy vice-captain Patrick Dangerfield will step up as vice-captain. Rory Sloane, Sam Jacobs and Jason Porplyzia are the remaining members of the 2013 leadership group.
