SANFL Stats Round One

A huge crowd came to witness Adelaide’s inaugural SANFL match at Prospect Oval.

But the Roosters led from start to finish to deny the Crows a fairytale start to the Club’s SANFL campaign. Brodie Martin impressed with 24 disposals while development Crow Tyson Davis-Neale booted three opportunist goals. Jason Porplyzia was helped from the field after copping a heavy knock late in the third term.

The loss remains Adelaide’s biggest SANFL defeat of the year.

Goalkickers:
McKernan 3, Cameron 2, Johnston, Lynch, Atkins, Lyons
Best players: Kelly, Lynch, Ellis-Yolmen, Lyons, L. Thompson

SANFL Stats Round Two

Tom Lynch made a triumphant return from a pre-season shoulder injury to collect a match-high 31 possessions, but it wasn’t enough to topple the Double Blues.

Adelaide trailed by just three points at the first change, but was overpowered thereafter to eventually fall by 37 points.

Shaun McKernan booted the first goal of the game on his way to three goals after returning from concussion. Rookie defender Jake Kelly stood tall down back alongside Luke Thompson, while Jarryd Lyons and Cam Ellis-Yolmen were prominent in the midfield. Ruckman Jack Osborn fell awkwardly during the contest and suffered a serious back injury that would sideline the 205 cm Tasmanian for six weeks.

Round Three – Crows Bully Dogs

ADELAIDE                      2.5   9.8   14.13   16.17 (113)
CENTRAL DISTRICT
2.1   4.3    7.4        9.7 (61)

Best players:

SANFL Stats Round Three

History was made when Adelaide recorded its first-ever SANFL victory in Round Three.

The Crows blew the Bulldogs away with a seven-goal second term to run out 52-point winners at Elizabeth Oval.

Draftee Riley Knight produced his best performance of the season with 20 possessions and two goals, while the trio of Mitch Grigg, Jarryd Lyons and Cam Ellis-Yolmen dominated the centre clearances for the Crows. Twin towers Lewis Johnston and Shaun McKernan proved too tall and finish with five goals and 14 marks between them.

Captain skipper Ian Callinan said the result was a turning point for the fledgling SANFL Crows.

The victory remains Adelaide’s biggest SANFL win of the season.

Round Four – Crows tamed by Tigers

ADELAIDE    3.4   6.6     11.6     13.8 (86)
GLENELG     2.5   10.9   11.14   17.21 (123)
Goalkickers: Cameron 4, Martin 3, Walker 3, McKernan, Callinan, Davis-Neale
Best players: Cameron, L. Thompson, Johnston, Siggins, Martin, Porplyzia

SANFL Stats Round Four

Taylor Walker booted three goals in his first match back since undergoing a knee reconstruction, but the SANFL Crows were soundly beaten at the Bay.

Almost 10,000 fans flocked to Glenelg Oval for the Club’s first-ever ANZAC Day clash.

Walker and speedster Charlie Cameron provided the spark as Adelaide led by five points at the first change. But the SANFL Crows were marred by inconsistency and fell away sharply in wet conditions at Glenelg despite closing to within two points late in the third term.

Round Five – Tex firms for AFL recall

ADELAIDE              2.2    5.3    9.5    13.9    (87)
PORT MAGPIES
7.1    9.6   14.9   20.12    (132)
Goalkickers:
Walker 4, Robinson 2, Martin, Spina, Ellis-Yolmen, Cameron, Lyons, Knight, Atkins
Best players: Lyons, Martin, Walker, Otten, Ellis-Yolmen, L Thompson

SANFL Stats Round Five

Taylor Walker continued his impressive return to football with another four goals in Adelaide’s only home SANFL game of the season at Clare Oval.

It was little resistance against the in-form Magpies however, as the SANFL Crows fell by 45 points in their fourth loss of the season.

Jarryd Lyons starred around the stoppages with 12 clearances for Adelaide, while Brodie Martin and AFL-listed defenders Andy Otten and Ben Rutten were solid down back.

Charlie Cameron again impressed in his last SANFL match to date. Cameron would later be promoted from the Club’s rookie list to make his AFL debut against Collingwood.

Riley Knight also kicked a fantastic goal in front of his hometown crowd in the Mid-North.

Round Six – Crows outclassed by West

ADELAIDE              2.0   4.2   5.3   6.6 (42)
WEST ADELAIDE   6.1   6.2   11.4   12.7 (79)
Goalkickers: Burns, Robinson, Knight, Spina, McKernan, Carroll
Best players: Lyons, L. Thompson, Ellis-Yolmen, Knight, Graham, M. Thompson

SANFL Stats Round Six

Adelaide suffered its third straight defeat as the SANFL Crows fell to West Adelaide by 37 points at Richmond Oval.

Adelaide fielded its most inexperienced side of the season with just five players boasting AFL experience.

Luke Thompson reveled as stand-in captain for the injured Ian Callinan, while the usual suspects of Jarryd Lyons and Cam Ellis-Yolmen were again amongst Adelaide’s best.

The Crows held the Bloods goalless in the second term and closed to within a kick minutes into the third. But Adelaide could not continue the resurgence as West booted six goals to two in the second half to claim victory.

Round Seven – Crows overrun by Redlegs

ADELAIDE   5.2   7.3   10.6   11.8 (74)
NORWOOD  2.3   7.6   13.7   16.9 (105)
Goalkickers: Callinan 4, Lyons 3, M. Thompson, Carroll, Knight, McKernan
Best players:
Lyons, Callinan, Otten, Spina

SANFL Stats Round Seven

A vintage four-goal display from Ian Callinan was not enough to lift the SANFL Crows over Norwood in Round Seven.

Callinan excelled in SANFL game No.100 as Adelaide burst out the blocks with the first five goals of the contest. The Redlegs reversed the tide in the second term however and claimed the lead by half time as inconsistency again marred Adelaide’s performance.

Jarryd Lyons was again Adelaide’s best, while Cam Ellis-Yolmen showed his versatility with an effective tagging role.

Norwood forward Ben Newton finished with eight goals to sink Adelaide’s hopes.

Crows SANFL coach Heath Younie labeled the result a “missed opportunity” given Adelaide’s dream start.

Round Eight – Crows down South

ADELAIDE               3.1   7.2   16.6   17.9 (110)
SOUTH ADELAIDE  3.2   7.4   7.7   13.11 (89)

Best players: Ellis-Yolmen, Reilly, Robinson, Atkins, Knight, Graham, Petrenko

SANFL Stats Round Eight

A blistering third term helped the SANFL Crows register their second win of the season with a 21-point victory South Adelaide at Noarlunga.

Adelaide slammed on nine unanswered goals to reverse a 19-point deficit midway through the second term and withstood a late final-quarter charge from the Panthers. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the SANFL Crows.

Late inclusion Gene Robinson impressed with left-footers Rory Atkins and Matt Crouch also influential. Brent Reilly continued his push towards an AFL return with an eye-catching performance across half-back.

Ruckman Shaun McKernan suffered an eye injury early in the second term and took no further part in the contest.

Round Nine – Brothers in arms

ADELAIDE                                   6.2   9.8   11.12   16.15 (111)
WOODVILLE-WEST TORRENS  5.3   7.4   8.8       9.9 (63)
Goalkickers: Robinson 5, Callinan 3, Grigg 2, Atkins, Burns, Battersby, Spina, Porplyzia, Knight
Best players: McKernan, Reilly, Porplyzia, Robinson, Hartigan, M. Crouch, O’Malley, Grigg

SANFL Stats Round Nine

Brad and Matt Crouch starred in their first game together as Crows as Adelaide upset premiership fancies Woodville-West Torrens by 48 points.

The brothers both finished with 31 possessions and seven clearances apiece, with Brad’s performance particularly impressive in his return from a fractured leg.

Development player Gene Robinson was Adelaide’s match-winner up forward, bagging five goals. Experienced trio Brent Reilly, Jason Porplyzia and Shaun McKernan were also influential.

Reilly’s 17 marks was the most of any Crow at either AFL or SANFL level this year.

It was the first time in Club history that Adelaide has won consecutive SANFL matches.

Round 10 – Dogs Deny Crows

ADELAIDE                  0.5   4.7   6.8     9.11 (65)
CENTRAL DISTRICT  3.5   5.7   6.10  10.11 (71)
Goalkickers: Robinson 2, Graham 2, Osborn, Battersby, Ellis-Yolmen, Callinan, Knight
Best players: Porplyzia, Henderson, Kelly, McKernan, Knight

SANFL Stats Round 10

Adelaide fell six-points short of a remarkable comeback in Round 10 against the Bulldogs after trailing by 24 points midway through the final term.

The SANFL Crows were in the hunt for the majority of the match despite never claiming the lead at any stage of the contest.

Ricky Henderson returned in style in his first competitive outing of the season. Jason Porplyzia was also impressive, while Brad Crouch continued his fine comeback from injury.

Crouch’s performance was soured by a striking incident that saw the 20-year-old reported for one match.

Round 11 – Crows snatch thrilling win

ADELAIDE                3.2   6.3   9.3   15.4 (94)
NORTH ADELAIDE  3.1   4.6   7.9   13.12 (90)
Goalkickers: Grigg 2, Porplyzia 2, Graham 2, Robinson 2, Battersby 2, Osborn, Spina, Callinan, Atkins, Paynter
Best players: M. Crouch, Hartigan, Graham, Callinan, Lynch, Kelly, Atkins, Knight

SANFL Stats Round 11

Angus Graham a match-winning goal with just 20 seconds remaining in Adelaide’s remarkable Round 11 win over North Adelaide.

Graham’s heroics capped off a memorable struggle against last year’s SANFL Grand Finalists. The margin between the two sides never extended beyond three goals with four lead changes in a frantic final term.

Tom Lynch starred in his first game in seven weeks since returning from a fractured jaw. Young midfielder Matt Crouch was also prolific in what coach Heath Younie proclaimed as his ‘best performance as a Crow’.
