The season-ending injury to Gary Ablett has sent shockwaves throughout the AFL Fantasy universe and looms as the biggest trade decision of the year for the Fantasy Crows.
Ablett suffered a dislocated shoulder in the third quarter of Gold Coast’s upset victory over Collingwood in Round 16. With a score of just 67 points, Ablett’s injury cost Adelaide’s fan-selected AFL Fantasy team any chance of upsetting league leaders Brisbane, who backed Tom Rockliff (137) as skipper.
We’ve have had a horrid run of luck against the top-two Fan Fantasy teams in Brisbane and North Melbourne this season. The Lions ran out eventual 2228 to 2001 winners to leave the Fantasy Crows still stranded in third position on the league ladder.
Rory Sloane (143) posted his best Fantasy total in almost a year and was our only Crow to crack the 100-point mark.
Fellow midfielders Michael Barlow (134) and Scott Pendlebury (111) continued their rich Fantasy form, while Tom Liberatore (119) bounced back in style after a disappointing fortnight against Port Adelaide (88) and Melbourne (57).
David Swallow (116) was dynamite in our defence while Jarrad McVeigh (119) notched his second-highest total of 2014. The pair sit second and third respectively for total Fantasy points scored by a defender this year.
Dustin Martin (115) was once again our shining light up forward. The in-form Tiger has now posted seven Fantasy tons from his past eight games.
This week we face a resurgent Geelong, which registered its first win of the season in a tight matchup against Port Adelaide last round.
The Ablett vote is the biggest decision The 19th Man will likely make this season, so make your voice heard by casting your vote below.
We can afford to spend big with only a few premiums outside of our price range. Brad Crouch also looks a bargain buy and could be a left-field option if we wanted to bank a swag of cash while bringing in the 2013 Rising Star Runner Up.
Our second trade could go two ways.
Jeremy McGovern bombed out on the weekend with a sub-affected 18 points against the Swans. The 22-year-old Eagle has already banked us some cash but could still swell in value later down the track. Are we that patient? Use your vote below.
The other option would be to sideways-trade Matt Suckling. The big-kicking Hawk has been disappointing in recent weeks and we could jump ship to the returning Ricky Henderson who was impressive against the Giants in his first AFL appearance of the season.
