Crows recruit James Peatling admits to being a little nervous before running onto Adelaide Oval for the first time in the tri colours.

But the almost 43,000-strong home crowd quickly helped Peatling feel at ease.

The 24-year-old made his Club debut in the Crows’ 63-point win against St Kilda in Round One last Sunday, five months after arriving at West Lakes following a trade with GWS.

On this week’s episode of The Crows Show, Peatling reflects on his Crows debut and receiving his guernsey in front of his family, partner and friends in the rooms pre-game.

“(There was) definitely a bit of nervous energy at the start but I loved it,” Peatling said.

“It was electric, the atmosphere running out onto AO, I loved it and can’t wait to get used to it.

“All the jumper presentations and stuff started happening and your mind was pretty occupied, it was good.

“Mum and Dad (were in the rooms) and then a mate and his partner from Melbourne who I’m very close with, so it was a pleasure to have them come over, and then a few other family friends and some mates as well. My partner is in Adelaide, so she was there as well.”

Peatling enjoyed a solid first hit-out in Crows colours, amassing 19 disposals, three tackles and a goal.

Although the midfield is his preferred position, Peatling said players’ versatility this year would be key to gaining success.

“Week-to-week it changes, but the majority (in the) midfield and a bit forward,” Peatling said.

“We have the ability with the people we have in there at the moment to spin the wheels, which is good.

“Seeing how we are going on the day and what’s working, it will probably depend a little bit on how much midfield and forward time we have.”

After growing up in NSW, Peatling had not spent much time in South Australia but said he was loving his new home.

“I came in pretty open minded and didn’t really know what to expect,” Peatling said.

“I knew there were some little pockets of stuff that I wouldn’t have seen before, being on the east coast, which was really cool, obviously Yorkes and a few of those areas down south, past McLaren Vale and the hills, was really cool.”

Also on The Crows Show this week, youngster Sid Draper talks about making his AFL debut, Ben Keays chats to teammate Wayne Milera and fan favourite Sam Jacobs reveals how he’s still connected with the Club.
